Overview
About Shopify
Opportunity is not evenly distributed. Shopify puts independence within reach for anyone with a dream to start a business. We propel entrepreneurs and enterprises to scale the heights of their potential. Since 2006, we have grown to over 8,300 employees and generated over $1 trillion in sales for millions of merchants in 175 countries.
This is life-defining work that directly impacts people’s lives as much as it transforms your own. This is putting the power of the few in the hands of the many, is a future with more voices rather than fewer, and is creating more choices instead of an elite option.
About you
Moving at our pace brings a lot of change, complexity, and ambiguity, and a little bit of chaos. Shopifolk thrive on that and are comfortable being uncomfortable. That means Shopify is not the right place for everyone.
Before you apply, consider if you can:
- Care deeply about what you do and about making commerce better for everyone
- Excel by seeking professional and personal hyper growth
- Keep up with an unrelenting pace (the week, not the quarter)
- Be resilient and resourceful in face of ambiguity and thrive on (rather than endure) change
- Bring critical thought and opinion
- Use AI tools reflexively as part of your fundamental workflow
- Embrace differences and disagreement to get shit done and move forward
- Work digital-first for your daily work
Shopify’s Apprentice Product Manager (APM) role is a paid 12 month position, made up of two team placements, designed to develop early product talent into future product leaders.
As an APM, you will learn how products are developed at Shopify, supported by a dedicated mentor, a working community of peers, and a comprehensive learning program. You will work alongside some of the best product managers in the industry on products that will have a real impact on our merchants.
The opportunity
Join a high performing Product team that will constantly push you to grow and improve. Real talk, get comfortable with being uncomfortable.
- Own real product problems for real merchants
- Learn Shopify’s product management craft across two different team placements, each with a Senior Product Manager to guide and coach you
- Use AI daily for prototyping, research, analysis, and building
Participants are expected to learn rapidly, adapt, and achieve impactful results for our merchants within 12 months. If you prefer detailed direction and a clear roadmap to follow, this role probably is not for you.
Qualifications
We are looking for:
- A history of creating something that did not exist before and seeing it through
- Comfort operating without a playbook. Figuring out what needs to happen and making it happen.
- A track record of doing more with less, stretching limited time, resources, or experience further than expected
- Genuine interest in the audience affected by what you build: merchants, buyers, or communities
- A pattern of picking up new skills, domains, or responsibilities quickly
- Hands-on experience making things with AI. We are looking for people who have used AI to do real work, not people who have listed it on a resume.
- Legally eligible to work from the locations listed by the chosen program start date
- Able to work a minimum of 40 hours per week as of March 2027. This is not a part time opportunity.
Key info
- This application will close November 9, 2026 at 11:59 PM EST
- Program start date: March 8, 2027. You cannot change or delay your agreed start date. No exceptions will be granted given the short-term nature of this program. We want you to get the most out of it!
- You may not be enrolled in an academic program while participating in the program. This is a full time opportunity.
- You must have legal authorization to work full time (40 hours a week) in the locations listed. Shopify will not provide visa or immigration support.
- You will hear back from us within 3 to 4 weeks from the job posting closing date
We hire people, not resumes. If you think you are right for the role, apply now!
About the discipline
Product at Shopify
Every discipline at Shopify works close to real merchant problems. You will join a team that owns meaningful scope, ships to a high bar, and helps millions of entrepreneurs start, run, and scale their businesses.
Growth and rewards
Mastery-matched compensation
At Shopify, getting better at your craft and increasing your impact is how you grow. Twice a year, we assess both in our Mastery cycle, Shopify’s performance review. Achieving higher Mastery is a promotion, and when you earn a promotion your total rewards grow with it. Crafter and manager are equal paths, so you can pursue excellence in the craft you are best at.
Total rewards
With Flex Comp, your Rewards Wallet gives you agency over your compensation mix. Adjust your mix of cash, restricted share units, and stock options (including programs like Long-Term Equity) to where it makes sense for you, and mix it up anytime as life and priorities change. Buying a house? Want more skin in the game? Just experimenting? It is your call.
Flex Comp program offerings vary based on location, role, and employment type. Full details are set out in our Terms and Conditions and related plan documents.
