Overview

Vox Media employees thrive on innovation and change while ambitiously seeking to master their subject areas, hone their craft, and improve their communities. We help smart, talented, creative professionals make a meaningful impact in media, technology and the world around them. The Vox Media house of networks includes industry-leading media forces like SB Nation, Eater, The Verge, Vox, Curbed, Recode, Racked and Polygon, and reaches an audience of hundreds of millions, generating over a billion content views each month.

How we build and share this content requires our product team to understand the contributors who shape it, the audiences who consume it, and the landscape in which we operate. We use surveys, interviews, loads of data, usability tests, and more to study people, products, and the marketplace to understand the context in which our work lives. This research determines product decisions and strategies, shapes feature designs, and influences the user experience.

We’re looking for a part-time user research intern to assist the Vox Product team with this work over the summer of 2018. Our ideal candidate is a skilled listener and excellent communicator who’s able to make detailed observations and connect the dots to form a story. Anthropology or ethnography experience is a plus.

This intern will work under our principal user researcher to inform product development, strategy, and a general understanding of Vox Media’s various consumers.

Research interns for the Vox Product team will:

  • Recruit interview subjects
  • Interview audience members (mostly remotely, but possibly in person)
  • Analyze data in Excel and Google Sheets
  • Share well-written, clearly formatted research findings
  • Collaborate
  • Embrace the beginner’s mind

This paid internship is open to remote workers in the United States, though interns can choose to work from our New York or Washington D.C. offices if already nearby. Interns will work with our principal user researcher, who is based in Georgia.

To apply, please submit:

  • Your resume
  • A compelling cover letter that describes something you learned from a recent interview you conducted (and why you conducted the interview in the first place).

This internship begins May 29 2018, with the ideal individual working up to 29 hours per week.
