Mic is looking for a highly motivated, passionate writer to work with our tech team to produce engaging, informative and high-quality posts about Silicon Valley, consumer tech, internet culture and social media trends. This applicant must have their finger on the pulse of the biggest ongoing narratives in our space, from Snapchat app updates and self-driving cars to Uber harassment allegations and Twitter abuse issues, while tracking rumors about upcoming releases like the iPhone 8 and the Galaxy S8. You should understand how readers reach tech news and guides through Google search and be able to optimize your writing with SEO best practices.
This is a part-time, four-month contract position, and writers are required to work remotely.
Responsibilities:
- Write quickly and accurately under tight deadlines
- Be able to follow proper protocol around sourcing
Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of SEO best practices, or be willing to learn
- Familiarity with Mic and its voice
- Ability to create clean, high-quality copy under very tight deadlines
- Ability to write comfortably and competently about consumer tech, social media and digital culture
- Be social media savvy, able to monitor Google, Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, Reddit, and wherever else breaking and trending story opportunities can be found
- Willing to work evenings and weekends on a flexible schedule
- Strong knowledge of AP style
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or English preferred
