Overview

The Senior Solutions Engineering Lead is responsible for defining and scaling a team that will provide solutioning services to merchants in the Shopify Plus sales funnel. The Senior Solutions Engineering Lead is ultimately responsible for the team’s revenue contribution, merchant retention through on-boarding, and solutions enablement for Shopify Plus. This role would be part of the broader Technology Services senior leadership group, and would also encompass strategic initiatives that would impact all technical merchant facing teams in Plus.

Responsibilities:

  • Builds a global team of Solutions Engineers and Leads that can support a global sales team
  • Creates a culture which rewards effective technical sales, as well as responsibility and merchant success
  • Acts with responsibility in ensuring that good fit merchants are added to the platform
  • Identifies one-to-many enablement opportunities to scale the impact of Solutions without significant growth to the team
  • Builds and maintains effective bridges between technical front lines and the product organization, including roadmap influence
  • Define Solutions Engineering OKRs and team strategy

Tangible Priorities:

  • Identify an appropriate Solutions assignment/rotation model for the global sales team
  • Better leverage Salesforce for Solutions, Technology Services and downstream frontline teams
  • Define clear expectations of the Solutions Engineering role, as well as job levels and lead/individual contributor career paths
  • Optimize the on-boarding and enablement practices of the Solutions and sales teams
  • Coach and amplify the impact of the Solutions Engineering lead group
  • Identify and implement a global Solutions strategy for Europe and other emerging markets
  • Accelerate and productize the Plus demo experience for Solutions and sales

Requirements for the Role:

  • Strong technical background, with demonstrated success in R&D, sales and/or merchant facing roles
  • Experience leading Solutions Engineering in a SaaS environment
  • Strong storyteller with the ability to speak comfortably to Shopify’s platform, roadmap, major tech partners, competition, and common enterprises merchant integrations & challenges
  • Ability to build strong relationships and work cross-functionally with other departments within Plus to provide a valuable and consistent Merchant Experience
  • Demonstrated experience building and leading high-performing teams
