Particle’s Engineering team is hiring Site Reliability Engineers that live the DevOps mindset to implement our identified best-practice scalability patterns across our backend systems.

Particle has the largest developer community in the Internet of Things (IoT) with over 120,000 engineers and hundreds of companies building IoT products on our platform. We generate millions in revenue through enterprise sales and hardware development kits, and we reinvest those earnings into the expansion and quality of our platform.

Do you like to build intuitive systems that enable organizations to achieve higher feature velocity while also becoming more reliable? DevOps philosophy suggests this is possible if the right tools, processes, and culture are in place. As an organization, we already have good tools, processes, and culture; we are seeking additional engineers to help us scale and apply them consistently across all Particle engineering endeavors.

Responsibilities

  • Communication & Collaboration: Participating in the discovery, refinement, articulation, and implementation of scalable software development patterns to backend systems that can boost engineering velocity and improve system reliability
  • Coding: Test driven infrastructure development with Chef, Chef Automate, Inspec, and Test-Kitchen
  • On-Call: Participating in an on-call PagerDuty rotation
  • Science & Data Analysis: Study production infrastructure and application monitoring & logging systems to help identify root causes behind complex problems, propose hypotheses, and conduct low risk experiments to prove or disprove hypotheses
  • Documentation and automation tool creation: Make the team more scalable by documenting technical systems and building scripts and tools to boost developer productivity.

Requirements

  • 2 years experience with Ruby
  • Ability to teach test driven development
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Familiarity with Chef
  • Familiarity with Docker
  • Very strong communication skills
  • Experience working as part of a distributed team with many remote colleagues

Preferences

  • Experience doing test driven infrastructure development with Chef in production with over 100 nodes
  • Technical leadership experience stewarding organizational change to improve DevOps tools, processes, and culture
  • Located in or willing to relocate to San Francisco or Minneapolis
  • Experience with Cucumber
  • Experience with Terraform
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines
  • Passionate about security
