Overview

Ranker is growing! Do you love lists and listicles? Are you constantly sending links to your friends and arguing the merits of the lists? Do you have a knack for SEO? If so, we want to meet you!

We’re currently looking for the right person looking to join our Content team as our new SEO Content Editor.

The ideal candidate has some professional experience working for a content publisher like Ranker, in which you’ve proven your ability to produce keyword-driven content that performs. You are a self-starter who will embrace our start-up culture, and throw yourself into making our company a huge success.

But perhaps most importantly, you know a lot about a lot of things and have a fast mind. You think fast, type fast, and work fast. You can quickly rattle off trivia and when you need to look it up you are able to do so quickly.

Why work at Ranker?

  • Fun work environment with a no-douchebag hiring policy
  • If you like a fast pace, you’ve come to the right place
  • Develop your skills in an entrepreneurial fashion by joining a growing company at just the right size
  • Competitive compensation

As our SEO Content Editor, you will:

  • Edit and publish work from freelance writers and check accuracy and authority of their information
  • Add keywords to freelancers’ work, optimizing for SEO best practices
  • Add and remove items to lists to ensure they are complete, authoritative, and engaging
  • Edit copy for grammar and readability

What we’re looking for:

  • 0 – 2 years commercial work experience in a content editorial role, preferably for a content publisher
  • Broad knowledge of a ton of different topics, ranging from pop-culture, anime, sports, the newest shows on Netflix, etc — basically a one-stop shop of random trivia that the Internet loves to talk about — and the ability to come up with a decent ranking of various topics
  • A good understanding of how people search for things (ie what people put into the Google search bar when they’re looking for trivia)
  • Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college with a degree in Communications, English, or similar is helpful.

Bonus points for:

  • SEO experience is a major plus, particularly experience with modern SEO practices and familiarity with doing keyword research and understanding how to create content around it. You understand how people search for things, how to incorporate keywords into content without stuffing, and can create ideas for content based on what people are searching for on Google.
  • Experience with web analytical tools (i.e., Google Analytics)
  • Experience working for a startup or similarly fast-growing company — you already know the drill of what it’s like to work in a very casual, fast-growing environment

What’s in it for you:

  • Be part of a fun, fast-growing, mid-stage media startup
  • Expand your SEO skills and gain tangible content creation experience
  • Establish a working relationship with a major content publisher
  • The flexibility that comes with part-time, remote work

In addition to a completed application (including all screening questions), current resume, and salary requirements, we’d like to know more about why you would be a great fit for the role. What we are looking for often doesn’t show on a resume. With that said, the best way to get our attention, particularly if your resume doesn’t show it, is to demonstrate in your application, cover letter,  or in other attachments why you fit the unique characteristics of this role. For example:

Send us links to blog posts or other online writing that showcase your breadth of knowledge
List all the topic areas that you are either an expert or well-versed in (be as granular as you want)
Describe any kind of large projects you managed and the kinds of efficient processes you developed
