Overview

Axios is seeking an innovative thinker to lead our new efforts in developing native reading and contributing tools for mobile devices. This is a unique role that combines strategic product thinking with a deep understanding of the capabilities and implementation details of mobile applications. The position will have oversight of both staff and contractor developers, focused on building and maintaining iOS and Android applications.

As this role is a mix of both technical and strategic skills, ideal candidates will have experience in consumer-facing companies, building and improving mobile products. Experience in Swift/Objective C and Java for Android devices is a plus, though some level of formal development experience will be required. Candidates must have experience managing cross-functional teams, and in coordinating efforts with affected business units like Marketing, Editorial, and Audience Development. Candidates should have experience in instrumenting a product to gather data on its use and to lead to improvements. (This role will work closely with our Data team on measuring those behaviors, collecting data across platforms, and interpreting those results.) While a background in news or media isn’t required, we are looking for people with a passion for helping people get smarter, faster, on the day’s most critical topics.

In the year we’ve been publishing, our most active and passionate readers have been asking for native solutions on their mobile devices. While it would be simple to deploy a straightforward news reading application, we see expansion into mobile as a strategic differentiator. Our app must follow the same tenets of our editorial and product teams, namely: provide value to the reader first and foremost, with as little clutter as possible. We seek an innovative leader who can help us push the boundaries of what’s possible, to deliver something uniquely useful to our most valuable users.
