Overview

The Risk Operations Support Team at Shopify is responsible for the day-to-day operation and sustainable growth of our payments services, fraud detection and merchant compliance with the Shopify Payments Terms of Service. We tackle a number of issues, including catching fraudulent merchants (who may be trying to turn stolen credit cards into cash, defraud customers or steal shipping labels). We operate as agents of the card brands and issuers by ensuring our merchants are acting in compliance with their rules and regulations. We monitor accounts for behaviour such as elevated chargeback percentages or high risk products and communicate with merchants to help them succeed as well as protect our bottom line.

The Risk Operations Support Team is currently looking for a Fraud Operations Support Representative to help us succeed in our mission.  This will be a remote position allowing you to work from the convenience of your home. No long commutes into an office!

Your job as a Fraud (Risk) Operations Support Representative will be as an intricate part of the Risk Operations Support Team and support the Fraud Solutions Team.   You will be part of a team that is responsible for ensuring that merchants are in compliance with Shopify’s Terms of Service as well as reviewing the Shopify Payment gateway for eligibility, chargeback monitoring, and underwriting requests on behalf of our banking partners and Fraud Analysts. You will, of course, exercise great attention to detail and be able to spot small anomalies that may be signs of fraud/suspicious activity.  You will be a main point of contact for merchants as well our Shopify Gurus (our merchant service team) to help answer risk related questions.  You may also be involved in initiatives that help make Risk Operations Support better for everyone.

A successful candidate will:

  • Have a solid understanding of the Visa Global Brand Protection Program (GBPP) and the MasterCard Business Risk and Mitigation Program (BRAM) 
  • Be, in particular, very familiar with the Drugs and Pharmaceuticals BRAM/GBPP rules
  • Possess the ability to learn new tooling and process information related to fraud and risk
  • Be comfortable working in high-stress and fast paced environment
  • Be comfortable making potentially business impacting decisions
  • Be comfortable processing a high volume of tickets/tasks
  • Be very detail-oriented and methodical, as well as an expert multitasker
  • Have great communication skills, possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Be highly aware when handling confidential and sensitive information
  • Be familiar with the Shopify Payments Terms of Service
