Bustle.com is a new force in media: a news, entertainment, lifestyle, and fashion site for young women driven by a diverse and energetic collection of contributors.

What we have in common with each other and our readers is that we’re insatiably curious about the world. We care about what’s working and what isn’t, about fashion, politics, technology, diversity, books, celebrities, health, beauty, work, friendship, and how to make amazing food on a budget. These are the stories we deliver every day in a format that’s always getting better, quicker, and more engaging.

Do you wake up and check Twitter before you brush your teeth? Did you rush to the nearest airport after Trump’s first travel ban was ordered? When Congress tackles health care, do you specifically wonder how it will affect low-income, transgender, or immigrant women? Do you want to do reporting that will hold politicians on both sides of the aisle accountable to the American people?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, Bustle is the news site for you. We want to cover how the Trump administration influences young women in particular, depending on their race, region, socioeconomic status, faith, sexual orientation, and more. We want you to report and analyze current events that speak to millennials and show how Beltway decisions directly impact their day-to-day lives.

We’re looking to hire hungry, part-time reporters who want to go beyond blogging and break news. News Reporters will be remote and report to our Deputy News Editor, covering a broad range of politics, policy, and items pegged to the general news cycle. They will collaborate with our general assignment editors and writers, who are based in New York City and around the country.

Candidates should have 2-5 years of experience in journalism, ideally writing and reporting about politics. Diverse voices and those applicants with a spectrum of experience are encouraged to apply.

Candidates also should be available for one of these two blocks (EST):

Sunday – Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

or

Thursday – Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m

Responsibilities

  • File at least two reported, 600 word pieces per day
  • Perform in-depth investigations for both longform pieces and news briefs
  • Jump into all-hands-on-deck breaking news coverage when required
  • Master search engine optimization and apply these skills to own pieces
  • Follow Bustle style and turn in crystal-clear, conversational copy
  • Comfortable incorporating photos, videos, tweets, and memes naturally into news stories

Requirements

  • 2-5 years of experience in journalism, specifically working for a news publication
  • Experience in both investigative reporting, breaking news, and analysis
  • Excellent communication skills, not only in tracking down sources but maintaining correspondence with editors
  • Strong pitching skills, with the vision to come up with ideas that go beyond first-note news
  • Have a great network of go-to sources and industry experts
  • Ability to juggle multiple articles at a time, switching between topics at the drop of a hat
  • Ability to work at a speed competitive with other news outlets
  • Unwavering journalistic integrity and ethical standards
  • Be a team player, listen to direction, and pitch in where needed
  • Comfortable working in an ever-changing, start-up environment
