Overview
We are searching for an experienced full-stack web engineer to join the Wikimedia Fundraising Engineering team. ย Each year, small donations from hundreds of thousands of individuals constitute the majority of the budget for the Wikimedia Foundation. This money is used primarily for projects, such as Wikipedia, and operational costs. We are looking for someone who wants to help Wikimediaโs non-profit fundraiser become more accessible worldwide, while maintaining integrity and scalability across changing markets and over numerous device types.
We’d like you to do these things:
- Support Wikimediaโs online fundraising goals worldwide by integrating with new payment providers and implementing new payment methods
- Help the team surface important patterns and trends by improving internal visibility and reporting capabilities
- Share the ongoing responsibility of maintaining the security and integrity of the existing donation infrastructure
- Provide an increased level of engineering support during particularly high-traffic or critical campaigns
We’d like you to have these skills:
- BS in Computer Science or the equivalent in relevant work experience
- Expertise developing, deploying, and debugging in LAMP environments
- Three years experience developing in PHP or similar web scripting language(s)
- Excellent knowledge of MySQL and other relational databases
- Comfortable working with JavaScript/HTML/CSS for front-end development
- Experience integrating with third-party web APIs, and maintaining those integrations
- Highly collaborative work style
- Passionate about working in open source
And it would be even more awesome if you have experience with:
- Previous experience working with the following:
- Open-source software architecture and development
- Payments-related code
- Device-specific / mobile code
- CiviCRM or other fundraising software
- MediaWiki, Drupal and other open source PHP-based CMS systems
- Experience working remotely, or with a distributed team
- Ability to develop and maintain software with high security and accuracy requirements, at scale
- Familiarity with cross-browser compatibility testing
Show us your stuff!
If you have any existing open source software that you’ve developed (these could be your own software or patches to other packages), please share the URLs for the source. Links to GitHub, etc. are exceptionally useful. ย We would also like to see any technical blogs to which you contribute.
