Overview

Vox Media employees thrive on innovation and change while ambitiously seeking to master their subject areas, hone their craft, and improve their communities. We help smart, talented, creative professionals make a meaningful impact in media, technology and the world around them. The Vox Media house of brands includes industry-leading media forces like SB Nation, Eater, The Verge, Vox, Curbed, Recode, and Polygon, and reaches an audience of hundreds of millions, generating over a billion content views each month.

The Verge is seeking a Features Editor to oversee longform and special editorial projects. As the Features Editor, you will produce cover stories that elevate the ambition of our team and brand, and that delight and surprise our audience. Your work will push The Verge forward.

Features have been a core part of our editorial program since we launched in 2011. From high-stakes capers, to inside stories and investigations of the world’s most influential technology companies, our features program has published works of remarkable journalism. As the Features Editor, you will continue this tradition, and reignite The Verge’s passion for telling great stories.

What you’ll do:

You will be responsible for delivering on the promise of The Verge to our audience. You will hunt for powerful stories at intersection of technology, science, and culture, always keeping an eye toward our inexorable future. And you will work with our talented team of editors, videographers, and artists to conceive of new ways to tell stories to our massive audience, across our distributed multimedia channels.

What you’ll bring:

Our ideal candidate has a mastery of editorial and organizational skills, a strong and diverse network of freelancers (including great writers and artists) and expertise in running a features program. You will work with our talented internal team, but you will also be responsible for bringing exciting and unique outside voices and ideas to our front page. Hopefully your work will win an award, or two.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 3+ years of experience editing longform or running a features program
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to manage several long-term projects at once
  • A fiercely creative mind and a talent for identifying great stories
  • A track record of assigning and editing stories that perform online

If this describes you, please submit: a cover letter that includes links to three features you’ve assigned and edited, and a resume.
