Use your English teaching expertise to help Duolingo users learn while chatting with Bots.

Duolingo is looking for an experienced English as a Second Language instructor who is also a native speaker of American English. If you have experience designing English language curricula  for second language learners, as well as some linguistic training, this position is perfect for you. This is a freelance temporary position with hourly compensation (no benefits included).

Responsibilities:

  • Work on the existing chat scripts for Duolingo Bots, so that they can be used by users learning English (Spanish speaking learners at first).
  • Make sure the prompts (Bots’ questions and statements in English throughout the script) are at the appropriate level of difficulty.
  • Add all possible answers that users can give in English to these prompts.
  • Go through user reports and identify what learners struggle with the most.
  • Remotely attend team meetings (Mon-Wed-Fri, 11:30am Eastern time).

Requirements:

  • Strong interest in the mission of Duolingo.
  • Familiarity with Duolingo app usage is a plus.
  • Experience teaching English as a second language at college level.
  • Native fluency in both spoken and written (American) English.
  • Linguistic training is a big plus.
  • Basic computer skills (Google docs).
  • Ability to work in the US legally without visa sponsorship (working remotely outside the US is a possibility).
  • Ability to work 20-40 hours a week (working full-time is a possibility).
