GitHub is changing the way the world builds software and we want you to help change the way our customers use GitHub via third-party tools. We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to work with a dynamic and distributed group of engineers bringing GitHub experiences to whatever tools they rely on to build software.

The engineers in GitHub’s Ecosystem organization build and support our APIs, user identity, and Marketplace. We serve over 250 million API queries per day and over 60% of our Organizations use an integration. The Integrations team is a small team of engineers with huge impact. They create first-party integrations using our APIs to connect with third-party applications. The Integrations team recently released the first such integration: GitHub for Slack.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with customers, external business teams, GitHub teams, and other specialists to craft focused, engaging integrations that help our customers.
  • Meet with team members 1-1 on a regular basis helping them learn, grow, and advance in their career.
  • Lead a focused team that delivers high impact, low-risk first-party integrations in GitHub’s Ecosystem within a set of limitations.
  • Be able to, when useful, contribute to projects via writing code, reviewing pull requests, and providing technical guidance
  • Ensure the team, the company and the community have a clear understanding of the direction of the projects and the reasoning behind decisions.
  • Create a plan for monitoring and maintaining the deployment of these integrations from proof-of-concept to production scale with the support of our Infrastructure teams.
  • Collaborate with Product to identify opportunities for future integrations.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years leading teams as an engineering manager or similar role.
  • 3+ years building web applications at scale.
  • You love building useful products within a set of limitations.
  • You are adept at making trade-offs, cutting scope, and bringing an amazing, focused experience to our customers.
  • You are known for being a great communicator and have the ability to empathize with a diverse range of engineers.
  • You have experience building and integrating a variety of APIs using OAuth, SOAP, GraphQL, REST, and more in several different languages.

Preferred:

  • You have experience writing and deploying Node.js in production.
  • You have experience with a variety of tools used as part of developing, deploying, and monitoring software.
