Overview

Chef is on a mission to help organizations of all sizes build on a foundation of continuous automation in their quest to deliver the best customer experiences. Chef is one of Glassdoor’s Best Places to Work companies for 2017, is the recipient of Forbes’ 2016 Tech Impact Award, and received nominations for awards, such as “Best Emerging Tech Titan” by Seattle’s Geekwire magazine and Business Insider, and Best CEO. The Chef platform enables the entire enterprise ecosystem of customers, suppliers, and solution partners to deliver changes to applications, infrastructure, and compliance in many environments.

As the part of the Chef Community Engineering team, you will have significant impact to the future of Chef. Many of our commercial customers begin their Chef journey as an individual downloading the open source version of Chef. A single, delightful community experience continues to be a top reason why customers use Chef year-after-year.

This is where you come in as a Software Development Engineer passionate about improving our open source software projects. You will focus on delivering the following outcomes.

  • Double the number of external contributors of Windows-related issues and pull requests for the Chef-managed open source software projects in our ecosystem.
  • Chef is the most adopted automation framework on Microsoft Azure.
  • You will represent by speaking at Windows- or Azure-focused events (conferences, webinars, meetups, etc.) not organized by Chef.

You will interact with the entire company as well as our partners, customers, and the community at large so communication plays an important part of your day-to-day. Because you have such a public role, you will use conflict resolution and crisis management skills from time-to-time.  Your audience is very, very, diverse. Clear thinking and effective speaking will help in your quest to influence others.

Just like any open source community, our team at Chef is distributed across regions and we live and communicate in a dynamic world of text / video chat and peer review.

So, what’s in it for you? Aside from working with an extraordinary team and facilitating one of the most exciting open source projects in technology, you will be integral to crafting our open source strategy, growing our community, and driving the success of our business.

Here’s what we are looking for:

  • Experience managing Windows systems in a production environment
  • Experience deploying applications to Windows Azure cloud platform
