Role: Web Design SMEs to write questions for web technology certification exams

CIW (owned by Certification Partners, LLC) is looking for Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in Web site design and development fields. SMEs will contribute to development of new high stakes certification exams. Projects for various exams include two phases: Job Task Analysis (JTA), and Item Writing. This is “gig” work, not direct hire. Contribute a few hours a week, until project is complete.

We have partnered with Certiverse to develop high quality certification programs from the ground up. Upcoming projects include:

  • CIW Advanced HTML5 & CSS3 Specialist (in item writing phase now)
  • CIW Ecommerce Services Specialist (JTA ready to start, project timeline: June-August)
  • CIW Multimedia Specialist (JTA ready to start, project timeline: June-August)
  • CIW Mobile Application Developer (JTA ready to start, project timeline: June-August)
  • CIW User Interface Designer (update starting soon)
  • CIW Social Media Strategist (update starting soon)
  • CIW Data Analyst (update starting soon)
  • CIW Web Foundations Associate (update starting soon)

How it works: The Certiverse platform will collect the tasks that define each job role. A survey will evaluate the relative importance of each task. A blueprint is generated from the completed JTA. Following the exam blueprint, SMEs will write exam question items based on each task. SMEs must also review each other’s work. Each item is peer reviewed by at least 2 other SMEs, before being accepted for publication. Reviewed items may require revision cycles.

Experience desired: 3 or more years working in one or more of these job roles. CIW certifications are helpful, but not required.

Compensation: $100 per completed JTA (includes both contributions to writing the tasks and the completed survey). $50 per finished, peer-reviewed item accepted for publication. Reimbursement is paid monthly, directly through Certiverse. SME’s also receive access to corresponding courseware, where available (brand new programs may not have courseware yet; JTA will drive courseware development).
